Om:

ESO MALFLOR (b. 1994) is a Mexican-Norwegian-American artist from Houston, Texas. Their practice spans sculpture, photography, video, drawing, and multimedia installations. Rooted in autobiography and research, MALFLOR’s work explores the inherent transness of our world, focusing on the transsexual, transformative, transitional, and transitory aspects of life to illustrate just how natural trans existence is. With a focus on natural materials such as wood, stone, soil, and bodily fluids, their work is not only a narrative about transformation but is also a product of transformation in itself via the artistic process. Through this trans-expansive lens, they address themes of visibility, environmental impact, the body, and hybridity.

ESO has exhibited in cities across the United States, including in New York, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, San Antonio, and Philadelphia, among others, as well as in Oslo, Tynset, and Trondheim in Norway. They have been an artist in residence at Vermont Studio Center, Blue Mountain Center, The Medium Arts, Oak Spring Garden Foundation, and Tynset AIR. MALFLOR’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, as well as in private collections nationwide. Their debut poetry chapbook, “Everything is in Search of Equilibrium,” was released in Fall 2025.
