Amalia Fonfara (f.1985 GL) er utdannet billedkunstner ved Kunstakademiet i Trondheim. Min kunstneriske praksis er tett sammenvevd med min praksis og studier i animisme og nordiske magiske tradisjoner. Jeg er opptatt av hvordan det rituelle rom og kontakten til Moder Jord kan åpne opp for en dypere følt forbindelse til materialiteter, landområdet hvor vi bor, og de mere-end-menneskelige kropper her.

Med fokus på magisk tenkning og ritual-skaping innen kunsten, søker jeg gjennom min kunstpraksis å åpne opp veier der kunnskapsoverføring i samtidskunsten stiller spørsmål ved postkoloniale strukturer, og pakker ut epistemologier som ligger utenfor positivistisk og rasjonalistisk tenkning. Jeg tenker ofte på arbeidet mitt med animisme og heling innen kunsten som gentle activism.

Mit arbeid er ofte sosialt engasjert i lokale miljøer og jeg jobber i mange ulike medier som installasjoner, film, video, lyd, og deltakende performances.

Amalia Fonfara (b.1985 GL) is a visual artist educated at the Fine Arts Institute in Trondheim. My artistic practice is closely intertwined with my practice and studies in animism and Nordic magic traditions. I am concerned with how the ritual space can help us to connect deeper with Mother Earth and open us up to embrace a relationship with the land, and the more more-than-human bodies here.

Focusing on magical thinking and ritual-making within the arts, my practice seeks to open up pathways where knowledge transmission in contemporary art questions postcolonial structures, thus unpacking epistemologies that lie outside the influence of positivist and rationalist thinking. I often think of my work with animism and healing practices within the arts as gentle activism. A practice where, through an insistent presence, spaces are created for more than human relationships, and for reclaiming a living relation to the land we live on and with.

My work is often socially engaged in local environments and I work in many different media such as installations, film, video, sound and participatory performances.
