Jeg heter Daniel Hygstedt Hansen og er en 33 år gammel billedkunstner. Jeg har studert ved kunstakademiene i Trondheim og Oslo, og i mitt arbeid bruker jeg ofte ny teknologi, som infrarød fotografi, for å fortelle historier om forskjellige steder eller ting. Historiene blander allegorier med fakta, i spekulative tekster og merkelige bilder. Akkurat nå arbeider jeg med et prosjekt som har arbeidstittelen «Red Forest Burning» og som kommer til å resultere i en serie fotografier og en kortfilm. I prosjektet bruker jeg en fototeknikk som ble oppfunnet av Kodak under Vietnamkrigen slik at amerikanerne kunne finne hus i jungelen å bombe. På bildene blir plantene nesten truende røde, mens syntetiske materialer beholder sin opprinnelige farge.

Kortfilmen handler om Europas siste urskog, Bialowieza-skogen på grensen mellom Polen og Hviterussland. Skogen er truet av både avskoging og grensekonflikten som blusset opp mellom EU og Hviterussland i 2021. Jeg kommer også til å produsere en serie store, fargerike fotografier som tar for seg fortellinger knyttet til skoger i Norden, og vanskelighetene med å på en meningsfull måte kommunisere komplekse spørsmål, som global oppvarming, gjennom nye medier, inkludert kunstig intelligens (AI).

I 2023 stilte jeg ut på Galleri BOX i Göteborg, Kunstgarasjen i Bergen og Rigas Fotobiennale. I tillegg til å være kunstner er jeg også prosjektleder ved Heimdal Kunstforening i en 25% stilling, og nestleder i Trøndelag Bildende Kunstnere.

My name is Daniel Hygstedt Hansen and I am a 33 year old visual artist. I have studied at the art academies in Trondheim and Oslo, and in my work I often play with new technology, such as infrared photography, to tell stories about different places or things. The stories mix allegories with facts, in speculative texts and strange images. Right now I am working on a project that has the working title «Red Forest Burning» and which will result in a series of photographs and a short film. In the project, I use a photographic technique that was invented by Kodak during the Vietnam War so that the Americans could find houses in the jungle to bomb. In the images, plants become almost menacingly red while synthetic materials retain their original color.

The short film is about Europe’s last primeval forest, the Bialowieza Forest on the border between Poland and Belarus. The forest is threatened by both deforestation and the border conflict that flared up between the EU and Belarus in 2021. I will also produce a series of large, colorful photographs that deal with stories connected to forests in the Nordic region, and the difficulties of meaningfully communicating complex issues, such as global warming, through new media, including AI.

In 2023, I exhibited at Galleri BOX in Gothenburg, Kunstgarasjen in Bergen and the Riga Photography Biennale. In addition to being an artist, I am also a project manager at Heimdal Kunstforening in a 25% position, and deputy chair of Trøndelag Bildende Kunstnere.
