About:
Daniel Romero Nieto (DARONI) is a Mexican artist-researcher based in Trondheim. Working across sculptural relief, printmaking and installation, he investigates how bodily perception, memory and experience leave traces in matter.
In his ongoing series Architecture of the Scar (2022–2026), layered surfaces of birch plywood, plaster, acrylic and intaglio ink are carved, abraded, inked and wiped until pressure, removal and repetition become structure. The work unfolds within Percepción Encarnada (Embodied Perception), his artistic research framework examining the body as a site where experience is transformed through making.
This current practice extends a material inquiry begun in Morphogenesis (1998–2013), where accumulation, viscosity, repetition and transformation became recurring methods. A background in architecture and materials research informs his attention to structure, scale and material behaviour.
His work has been presented in Norway, Italy and Mexico, including Trondheim Open, TSSK, Museo d’Arte Moderna Ugo Carà, Museo Arocena and Lo stato dell’arte – Friuli Venezia Giulia, part of the Regioni d’Italia initiative of the Italian Pavilion for the 54th Venice Biennale.
In my studio:
