About:
Brooke Eriksen is an American-Norwegian interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Trøndelag, Norway. Working across installation, photography, moving image, writing, and material-based practice, her work explores perception, landscape, movement, and embodied experience through long-term artistic research.
Eriksen’s projects often begin with a place, person, or encounter that becomes the subject of sustained observation. Drawing from contemporary philosophy, phenomenology, and the physical sciences, she investigates how bodies move through and come to understand particular environments. Landscape, architecture, objects, technologies, and personal histories become interconnected systems through which questions of memory, orientation, visibility, and physical experience can be explored.
Her process combines fieldwork, documentation, archival and systematic forms of collecting, and material experimentation with a visual language that is often cinematic and whimsical. Human figures recur throughout her work as observers, participants, and points of orientation within larger environments, creating a tension between subjective experience and the physical systems that surround us.
Underlying her practice is a longstanding interest in endurance, orientation, and the body’s relationship to space. Influenced as much by years of competitive athletics and equestrian sport as by philosophical inquiry, she approaches artistic research as a means of exploring how knowledge is formed through movement, repetition, observation, and lived experience.
Originally from the United States, Eriksen completed her B.A. in Art History and Visual Arts at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City. Early career experiences in California, within communities shaped by technology, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary innovation, broadened her interest in systems thinking and the intersections between scientific and artistic ways of understanding the world. She later relocated to Norway, living in Oslo and Ålesund before settling in Trøndelag, where she earned her Master of Fine Art at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), continuing on to earn her PPU teaching certification in art and craft from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), as well as continuing education courses in additional humanities subjects.
Her work has been exhibited in Norway and internationally. She continues to develop interdisciplinary projects bringing artistic research into conversation with philosophy, physical science, landscape, culture, and embodied experience.
Member of UKS, TBK, and NBK.
In my studio:
