Trondheim Open takes place over 10 days every other autumn, with open studios during the final festival weekend. The next Trondheim Open will be in 2026. Registration for artists opens in the spring. Get the latest news for artists delivered straight to your inbox.
We encourage all professional artists situated in Trøndelag to sign up for Trondheim Open!
Every two years, more than a hundred professional artists sign up for Trondheim Open and help create Central Norway's largest art festival.
If you are a member of, qualify for automatic admission to TBK, NKM or a similar professional organization, or a student at the Art Academy, you can participate as an artist at Trondheim Open. Sign up through the registration form and get an artist profile on our website. As a participating artist, you will keep your studio open on one of the festival days, get the opportunity to participate in our traditional Art Market and to get a curator visit during the festival.
Would you like to participate in the program? Read more under the headline 'Artist Initiated Program‘.
Meeting the audience is perhaps the essence of Trondheim Open. When I have an exhibition I often miss an immediate response. And that is exactly what I get when people visit me in the studio!

ART MARKET
Trondheim Open invites all signed up artists to apply for the Art Market!
Since 2018, we have organized an Art Market during the festival, where all registered artists can participate. We hire a producer who handles announcements, application forms, installation, and more. All you need to do is apply, submit your work, and invite your friends.
We aim to include as many artists as possible to showcase the diversity of art produced in our region. We hope the Art Market serves as a great introduction to the festival, especially for new audiences. Here, they can get an overview of many participating artists and find information about when and where to visit them during the open studios.
ARTIST INITIATED PROGRAM
Trondheim Opens purpose is to make visible and communicate professional artistic activity, and we have a well-established tradition of collaborating on this with the artists in Trøndelag.
ARTIST INITIATED PROGRAM
We have extensive experience in including artist-initiated projects in the program. From group exhibitions to interdisciplinary projects and dog portraits. If you have an idea for something you want to test or if you want to show something you have worked on for a long time - contact us and write about your project. Our criteria is that it must be in line with our statues, arranged by artists who qualify, and signs up for Trondheim Open and free attendance for the audience.
Trondheim Open can provide
- Letter of intent that can be used in applications for support
- Basic communication of the project through our social media channels and program
- Booking (if necessary) through our ticket system
CURATOR VISITING PROGRAM
We organize curatorial visits during the festival. A handful of curators are invited to the city, select artists based on the artist profiles on our website, and visit 4-5 artists each. In addition, they visit open studios to see even more artists' work.
