Om:

Esther Breslin is an Irish artist who has been based in Norway since 2013. She has a Bachelor degree in Fine Art – Printmaking from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and is currently a masters student at Kunstakademiet i Trondheim.

While Esther’s background is primarily in printmaking and painting, she increasingly incorporates other materials into traditional image making processes. She does this as a means of exploring themes such as perception, illusion and aesthetic experience. Her work is largely motivated by an interest in forest landscapes and our experience of, and interaction with, these environments. She is interested in the how they affect us on a psychological level and how, in turn, human activities affect these spaces.

Her current body of work deals with these issues in respect to the concept of land ownership. From her home in rural Tynset, she is exploring whether the notion of ownership effects one’s behaviours and attitudes towards a given space. She is investigating the tension between trying to care for an environment, while simultaneously being a user and beneficiary of said environment.
